Changes in West-E Teacher Certification

September 2009 changes will occur in Washington State Teacher Certification Preparation and Testing - this information and more in handout

OSPI (Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction) teacher assessment explanation

http://www.k12.wa.us/certification/teacher/teachertesting.asp

The National teacher certification test is called Praxis

  • Praxis I allows entrance to a teacher education program
  • Praxis II allows grade level and subject specialty certificates that allow a student to be hired
  • All of our study guides, cds and online testing are based on the old Praxis even if they say West-E
  • Our material is useful until August 2009

The specific Washington State certification test is called West -B (enter teacher education program) and West-E ( grade level and subject endorsements)- while the old West-B and West-E overlapped with Praxis, the new West-B and West-E does not.

Additional education statistics web sites:

http://www.whatworks.ed.gov/

The What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) collects, screens, and identifies studies of effectiveness of educational interventions (programs, products, practices, and policies). The WWC regularly updates the WWC Technical Standards and their application to take account of new considerations brought forth by experts and users. Such changes may result in re-appraisals of studies and/or interventions previously reviewed and rated. The current WWC Standards offer guidance for those planning or carrying out studies, not only in the design considerations but the analysis and reporting stages as well. The WWC Standards, however, may not pertain to every situation, context, or purpose of a study and will evolve.
